Lehigh opens league play by blanking Loyola 7-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team kicked off Patriot League play with an impressive 7-0 sweep of Loyola Sunday afternoon inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won all but one doubles match, while battling for six singles wins, three of which were three-set victories. Lehigh earns its eighth-straight win and improves to 10-1 on the season and 1-0 in Patriot League play, while Loyola falls to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in league action.
The duo of senior Jeremy Kochman and junior Graham Lehman got the afternoon started with a 6-1 win at the top flight of doubles, before senior Ricardo Prince and freshman George Cooper teamed up to earn a 6-2 win at the second flight and clinch the doubles point for Lehigh.
Kochman began singles play with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Jordan Kuchta at the top flight to put Lehigh ahead 2-0. Freshman Bryant Born followed suit with a 7-5, 7-5 (4) win at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Jack Petersen then clinched the match for the Mountain Hawks by battling for a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (3) victory over Reid Burch at No. 3 singles.
Cooper gutted out a 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles before junior Colin Nardella cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Loyola's Alex Castro. Junior Ethan Bogard wrapped up the 7-0 sweep for Lehigh with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
The Mountain Hawks will host Temple in Lehigh's final non-league match of the season Wednesday at 4 p.m. before the team hits the road Saturday to face Navy in another big Patriot League showdown.
