Armory Track Invitational Meet Information
Villanova Invitational Meet Information
The Lehigh track & field programs will be travelling to Manhattan and Staten Island, N.Y. this weekend, to compete in the Armory Track Invitational on Friday and the Villanova Invitational on Saturday. The Armory Invitational will feature schools from across the nation including Arizona, Boston College, Maryland, Lafayette and Vanderbilt among many others.
At the Armory, Lehigh is scheduled to be well represented across most events, including the 3,000 meter runs, where seniors Shannon Wright and Elizabeth Weiler will join freshmen Stacie Nadel and Maura Henderson in participating. In the men's 3,000-meter, senior Evan Ward, junior Ryan Cooney, freshman Samuel Layding and sophomore John Tolbert will compete for the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh will also be represented in the men's 5,000-meter run, women's distance medley, men and women's one-mile run amongst other events.
Last year at the Armory, Lehigh recorded a pair of IC4A qualifying marks, while competing on the same day at the Covert Classic. Ward and Sean Burke both placed in the top 20 of the 5,000 meter race, and Christopher Del Rossi set a new indoor PR of 49.53 seconds in the 400 meter run.
On Saturday, the weekend trip to The Big Apple continues with the inaugural Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex. Lehigh will be making its second appearance this season at the new venue, where both programs competed at the Villanova Open back on January 8. Trevor Knowles tied for third (4.60m) in the pole vault at the Open, Michael Camera placed fifth (13.43m) in the triple jump, and Lucas Warning came in second in his season debut in the shot put (16.85m). For the women, Laura Barnes and Clare Severe both finished third in the one mile run and 800 meter run, respectively. Courtney Avery also high jumped her way to a third place mark of 1.70m.
Last weekend at the Covert Classic and Thundering Herd Invitational, Lehigh notched eight wins on the women's side, including a pair from Amanda Youngblood in the shot put and weight throw. Avery's mark of 1.75 in the high jump earned her Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year. The men's side collected six victories on the weekend, led by Warning's school record 17.62 meter shot put.
Friday's action at the Armory Track is scheduled to begin at noon, followed by all day action on Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Track Complex.
