
Willis and White Place at Winter Nationals

RESULTS
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Lehigh swimmers completed their competition portion of their trip to the 2016 AT&T Winter National Championships as two of the three Mountain Hawks advanced to the finals in the 50-yard freestyle. The swimmers will remain at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center through Saturday to participate in time trial events.
Seniors Jamal Willis and Justin White both earned qualifying bids to the evening's finals after qualifying in the morning's preliminary heats. Willis placed third in his preliminary heat with a time of 20.33, the fastest time by a Lehigh swimmer this season and qualified for the B Final. In the final, Willis recorded a strong time of 20.35 to finish fourth in his final heat and place 12th overall out of a final field of 24 swimmers.
White came out with a solid performance in his preliminary heat as he placed second with a time of 20.74 to qualify for the C Final. The senior built off his performance in the prelims with an improved time of 20.62 to finish second in his final heat and capture 18th place in the field of 24 swimmers who qualified for the finals.
Both Willis and White improved significantly on their performances at last year's Winter Nationals. Willis recorded a time of 23.29 and placed 38th at last year's meet, while White posted a time of 23.16 to finish 31st.
Kaitlyn Ruffing represented the Lehigh women as she made her first appearance at the Winter National Championships. Ruffing placed sixth in preliminary heat No. 5 with a time of 23.37 and finished .04 seconds off the pace of the qualifying mark for the finals.
The Mountain Hawk trio will return home to join their teammates for continued training in preparation for the team's return to the dual meet schedule. The team will return to competition on January 6 with dual meet against Patriot League foe Army West Point at home beginning at 5 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will remain at home for another dual meet later that weekend as they host NJIT on January 8 at 1 p.m.
