Lehigh Women Have Strong Showing at Princeton Big Al Open

RESULTS
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team concluded its two-day stint at Princeton Unviersity's Big Al Open on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks faced strong competition and compiled 14 individual top-eight performances with two individual victories, led by Kaitlyn Ruffing who captured both individual victories for the Brown and White.
Lehigh started the with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay as competition got underway on Friday night. The foursome of Julianne Koch, Payton Miles, Audra Smires and Ruffing.
Meghan Thompson led Lehigh in the 500 freestyle with a fourth place finish in a time of 5:01.41. Kelly Carroll finished in sixth place with a time 5:03.87.
Courtney Ferreira had the top performance for LU in the 200 IM as she placed eighth with a time of 2:08.29.
The Mountain Hawks closed out individual competition on Friday with a strong showing in the 50 freestyle. Ruffing captured her first victory of the weekend with the top time of 23.53 to win the event. Miles finished just Ruffing with a time of 23.56 to place second and Smires captured seventh place with a time of 24.29.
As action began on Saturday, Carroll put together a strong performance in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.59 to place fourth.
The 800 freestyle relay group of Ferreira, Koch, Thompson and Carroll teamed up to place third in the event with a time of 7:45.79.
Cora Summerfield led Lehigh in the 1650 freestyle with a sixth place finish in a time of 17:42.69. Nicole Shek had the team's top performance in the 200 backstroke with a seventh place finish in a time of 2:07.11.
The Mountain Hawks had another strong showing in the 100 freestyle, led by Ruffing who captured her second victory of the weekend with a winning time of 51.11. Thompson came in fifth place with a time of 52.97 and Miles placed seventh with time of 53.16.
Carroll captured her second fifth place finish of the day as she placed fifth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.70. Sydney Bornstein placed seventh in the event with a time of 2:06.29.
Lehigh closed out the weekend with the 400 freestyle relay. Koch, Smires, Miles and Ruffing teamed up to place second with at time of 3:33.19.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool on Friday when they travel to Easton, Pa. to face archrival Lafayette in a Patriot League dual meet. The rivalry is set to get underway at 6 p.m. from Weinstein Natatorium.
