BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team kicks off its fall season this weekend at Navy's Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational. Action begins at 12 p.m. Friday and continues through Sunday at the Brigade Sports Complex.
The 10-team tournament will be played at both the indoor Tose Family Tennis Center and the outdoor Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium at the Brigade Sports Complex. Joining Lehigh at the Moore Invitational will be Binghamton, Fairleigh Dickinson, James Madison, Loyola, Monmouth, Navy, NJIT, Towson and St. Bonaventure.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 12-9 spring season in 2015 that saw Lehigh make its first Patriot League semifinal appearance since 2009.
Head coach Wouter Hendrix enters his second season as the head coach of the Lehigh women's tennis program. With no seniors on the nine-person roster, Hendrix will look to his junior class of four to lead the Mountain Hawks. Jamie Campisi led the Mountain Hawks with 14 doubles wins playing alongside reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year Christina Auyeung and went 11-9 in singles play. Classmate Cassidy Cruz played primarily at No. 2 singles a season ago, while Jessica Graham and Nina Larraza saw action in doubles play.
The sophomore class of four is led by Auyeung who earned first team All-Patriot League honors in addition to being named the Rookie of the Year in the spring. She manned No. 1 singles and doubles for the entire season, going 14-4 in singles play and 12-5 in doubles play. Classmate Briana Maravich went 13-7 at No. 4 singles a season ago, while Abby Duddy and Kristin Godau saw plenty of action as well.
The Mountain Hawks welcome one freshman onto the 2015-16 roster in Grace Lin.
In addition to action at Navy this weekend, Lehigh's fall slate includes two home events: the Lehigh Invitational (October 2-4) and the Patriot League Fall Kickoff (October 16-18). The Mountain Hawks will also send entrants to the Army West Point Invite (September 25-26) and ITA Regionals hosted by Dartmouth (October 23-25).
