Mountain Hawks to face Saint Peter’s in two midweek match-ups

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off a big series win over defending league champion Bucknell, the Lehigh baseball team will take on Saint Peter's in a pair of midweek games Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday's game will be played at Saint Peter's with first pitch set for 3:30 p.m. before the Mountain Hawks host the Peacocks Wednesday at Legacy Park at 3 p.m. Free video of Wednesday's game will be available on the Patriot League Network.
Lehigh won a 3-1 series against preseason favorite Bucknell last weekend in its home debut at Legacy Park. The Bison claimed the first game 4-2 in extra innings, but the Mountain Hawks earned a 6-2 win in game two before sweeping Sunday's doubleheader with a pair of walk-off wins after grabbing a 3-2, extra-inning victory in the opener and a 7-6 win in the nightcap. Senior Patrick Walshe led Lehigh offensively in the series with a 6-for-11 showing at the plate, while senior Tim McKay and junior Mike Garzillo both hit .500 over the weekend. Senior pitchers Nick Macaione, Nick Stephens and Jordan Smith each picked up wins on the mound.
Garzillo leads Lehigh for the season with a .406 batting average, 25 RBI, 16 extra-base hits and a league-leading .677 slugging percentage. Senior Justin Pacchioli follows with a .363 batting average and team-best 25 runs scored, 16 stolen bases and a league-leading .521 on-base percentage. Sophomore Jacen Nalesnik (14) and Patrick Donnelly (14), along with junior Anthony Rinaldi (11) and senior John Elson (10) have also recorded double-digit RBI.
Saint Peter's carries a 2-18-1 overall record into this week's two games and the Peacocks have dropped their last four games. Saint Peter's was swept by UMBC in a three-game series last weekend. Nick Ciocco leads the team with a .323 batting average, but is the only Peacock with more than 30 at bats hitting over 300. Ciocco, Nick Henriquez and Rob Moore have each knocked in a team-best seven RBI. Saint Peter's is hitting .220 as a team compared to its opponents' average of .321. The Peacocks hold a team ERA of 7.66.
Lehigh is 2-0 all-time against the Peacocks, with the only two meetings coming in 1997.
Following the two midweek games, the Mountain Hawks will resume Patriot League play at first-place Holy Cross this weekend.
