Lehigh Falls To Lafayette 7-3 In Series Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Due to poor conditions at Kamine Stadium in Easton, Lehigh baseball welcomed the Lafayette Leopards to J. David Walker Field on Sunday afternoon. The Leopards defeated the Mountain Hawks 7-3 to even the season series 2-2.
Ben Waterman earned the win for Lafayette (9-28, 5-15 PL) after going 6.0 innings with two strikeouts while allowing ten hits and three earned runs. Lehigh (12-26, 6-14 PL) starter Jackson Shepelsky was credited with the loss after conceding four runs in the first inning.
Lehigh, playing as the away team, put up a scoreless frame in the top of the first, allowing a four-run bottom of the first from Lafayette to put them in an early deficit. The Leopards extended their lead to six in the bottom of the second on RBIs from Will Dobil and Matt Colella.
The Mountain Hawks' offense got going in the fourth, scoring its first run of the day on an RBI fielder's choice from Max Dantoni. Silvio Giardina then singled home his classmate Dantoni the cut their deficit to four. After scoreless frames on both sides in the fifth and sixth, Owen Walewander crushed a solo home run to left field in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 6-3 in favor of the Leopards.
Brandon Doubek responded in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single that extended Lafayette's lead back up to four. The Leopards then kept the Mountain Hawks off the board in the eighth and ninth innings to secure the weekend series split.
Robbie Carvelli, Dom Patrizi, and Walewander each recorded two hits on the day. Aidan Quinn, Trystan Crawford, Ian Wirtz, Jack Frankovic, Dantoni, and Giardina also got hits for Lehigh. Jake Mulvehill, Noah Gyauch-Quirk, Brandon Coughlin, and Ralph Gariano also appeared on the mound for the Mountain Hawks.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 22 at 3 p.m. on the road at Saint Peter's.
