JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Lehigh baseball traveled east for a midweek contest with the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Wednesday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks avenged a March loss to the Peacocks in an 11-5 victory at Jaroschak Field.
Reliever David Andolina earned the win for Lehigh (13-26) after striking out four batters while allowing one run in 2.0 innings. Saint Peter's (4-33) reliever Luca Bruno was credited with the loss after allowing six runs in 1.2 innings of work.
After two scoreless frames in the first and second innings, the Peacocks struck first by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third inning. The Mountain Hawks responded in the top of the fourth with RBIs from Cadeyrn Ahearn and Max Dantoni to give Lehigh a 2-1 advantage. An RBI from Saint Peter's Bobby Lavely in the bottom of the fifth tied the contest at 2-2.
Lehigh gained some separation in the top of the sixth with a six-run inning. Ian Wirtz got things started by scoring off an error before a bases loaded walk of Aidan Quinn gave the Mountain Hawks a 4-2 lead. Owen Walewander then cleared the bases with a double to left field before scampering home on a throwing error to make it 8-2.
The Peacocks managed to score three in the bottom of the sixth to trim their deficit to three runs. However, the Mountain Hawks found some extra insurance by way of an RBI single from Silvio Giardina in the top of the seventh and a two-RBI double from Dom Patrizi in the top of the eighth. Ryan Holman, who pitched the final 3.0 innings for Lehigh, struck out six batters while allowing no runs and only one hit to secure the midweek victory for his team.
Patrizi had an excellent day at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBIs, two doubles, two runs scored, and a walk. Walewander went 2-4 with three RBIs while Wirtz and Giardina also had two hits apiece in the win. Crawford, Ahearn, and Robbie Carvelli also tallied hits for Lehigh.
Ralph Gariano and Cole Kochanowicz appeared on the mound for the Mountain Hawks in addition to Andolina and Holman.
The Mountain Hawks return to Patriot League play on Saturday, April 25 for a doubleheader against the Holy Cross Crusaders beginning at 1 p.m.
