BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's tennis team will look to continue a strong season with two upcoming matches against Fairleigh Dickinson and Connecticut. The Mountain Hawks will look to shake off the rust after a two-week layoff due to the cancellation of their last match against Mount St. Mary's last Sunday.
Â
Lehigh's last match resulted in a 4-0 loss against Richmond that halted the Mountain Hawks' three-match winning streak. Â Prior to the Richmond match the Mountain Hawks had won three straight matches thanks to the stellar play of junior Jeremy Kochman. The junior from Brooklyn, N.Y. has primarily played at the No. 3 or No. 4 singles so far this season, and owns a 5-0 singles mark while losing just once in doubles. Behind Kochman, sophomore Ethan Bogard owns a 4-1 record at the bottom of the singles lineup, while seniors Ben Gilman and Mitchell Petersen are both 3-3.
Â
Fairleigh Dickinson is coming off a 6-1 victory over St. Peter's on Wednesday to improve its mark to 2-2 during the spring season. Lehigh is the second Patriot League FDU will compete against this spring. The Knights were defeated by Army on Feb. 13 by a score of 6-1. Lehigh defeated Fairleigh Dickinson last season 5-2. The match is set for 9 a.m. start on Saturday.Â
Â
Connecticut comes into Sunday's match 0-2 in the spring. The Huskies also lost to Patriot League foe Army 4-1 on Feb. 8. UConn will face FDU Saturday afternoon after the Knights play Lehigh. The last time Lehigh and Connecticut met, UConn came away with a 5-2 victory in 2009. Sunday's match is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
Â
Both matches will be played at the Lewis Tennis Center. Â Sunday's match will conclude an eight match home stand for the Mountain Hawks, who will play five matches in Florida March 9-11 over spring break.
