Mountain Hawks to open fall schedule Friday at Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's tennis team will start its fall season this weekend at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational, hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md. The tournament will mark the first of four events for the women in the fall season.

The Mountain Hawks are one of eight teams competing over the weekend, including Navy, George Mason, Loyola, Towson, Farleigh Dickinson, St. Bonaventure and James Madison.

The young team will look to its senior team captain, Abby Farrell, for strong leadership going into the tournament, as co-captain, junior Ali Kaminetsky, will not play over the weekend.

While the team is comprised mainly of underclassmen, the first-year class is one of the most impressive in the team's history, and the Mountain Hawks are excited to see how their new players will perform for the first time competitively. The first year players include Christina Auyeung, Abby Duddy, Kristin Godau and Briana Maravich, all of who will get a chance to play in the invitational.

"It's a very exciting season, especially since we have the influx of four new talented freshmen who appear to be the core of Lehigh tennis for years to come," said head coach Dave Shook. "We're excited to get them out on the court and have them make all their mistakes in the fall so we can do some real damage on the court in the spring."

Sophomores Jamie Campisi, Cassidy Cruz, Jessica Graham and Nina Larraza are each expected to continue their strong performances from last year going into their second seasons with the Mountain Hawks.

For this weekend's Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational the A doubles will be played by Auyeung and Campisi as well as Graham and Maravich, while B doubles will be played by Duddy and Godau as well as Farrell and Cruz.

Auyeung and Cruz will also both play A singles; Maravich and Farrell will play B singles; Graham and Campisi will play C singles and Godau and Duddy will play D singles.

The women will continue their fall season next weekend at the Eastern Tennis Championships hosted by Army at West Point, N.Y. Lehigh will also sent players to the ITA Regionals in New Haven, Conn. October 17-19; and will host the Patriot League Kickoff October 24-26 to complete the fall schedule.

The Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational runs Friday through Sunday at the Brigade Sports Complex. Play will start at noon on Friday and 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
