BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Wouter Hendrix has announced the addition of two student-athletes, who will join the men's tennis program in the fall. Hendrix has brought in a pair of newcomers who have been tabbed as four star recruits by recruiting services in Dylan Karchere-Sun from New Jersey and Jack Petersen from Michigan.
Karchere-Sun comes to Lehigh from South Brunswick High School in New Jersey. A two-time Greater Middlesex Conference champion, Karchere-Sun was recently named Middlesex County Player of the Year and was also recognized as the Home News-Tribune Player of the Year. As a junior player, Karchere-Sun was ranked in the top ten in Boys 16 and under in Middle states. An honor roll student, Karchere-Sun will enroll in Lehigh's PC Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science with the intention of eventually majoring in bioengineering.
"Dylan brings athleticism, talent and character to the team," Hendrix said. "He has the potential to surprise a lot of people this year and have an immediate impact on our team."
Petersen joins the Mountain Hawks from Ann Arbor Huron High School in Michigan. He is a four-time first team all-state selection and a member of three MHSAA Division One state championship teams. In 2013, Petersen was recognized as the Ann Arbor News Tennis Player of the Year. Petersen is a winner of multiple USTA tournament titles and also lettered in varsity golf at Ann Arbor Huron. Academically, he is a member of the National Honor Society.
"Jack will bring toughness, grit and leadership to our program," Hendrix said. "I knew as soon as I met Jack and his family that he would be a perfect fit for Lehigh."
The Mountain Hawks lost two seniors to graduation following a 12-8 season in 2014. Lehigh has reached the Patriot League semifinals in each of the last five seasons, winning its first ever league title in men's tennis in 2013.
