BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After playing its first 14 games on the road or at a neutral location, the Lehigh baseball team will make its home debut this weekend with a three-game series versus Mount St. Mary's on the Goodman Campus Baseball Field. A doubleheader will be played Saturday with first pitch set for 12 p.m. and Sunday's single game will begin at noon, as well.

The two teams each opened their seasons against one another in Davidson, N.C. on Feb. 21. Lehigh suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to the Mount in extra innings. Tied 4-4 heading into the ninth inning, the Mountain Hawks were able to take a 6-4 lead before the Mount matched Lehigh's two runs and sent the game into extra frames. A 12th-inning Mount run ended the contest as Lehigh was handed the season-opening loss.

Lehigh's game at Temple Wednesday was washed out in the second inning so the Mountain Hawks will be looking to build off their 7-5 win over NJIT on Sunday after starting the weekend 0-3. The Mountain Hawks trailed the Highlanders 5-0, but used a five-run fifth inning and two-run double from junior John Elson in the eighth inning to capture the 7-5 victory. Sophomore Brandon Kulp, freshman Steven Goldberg and senior Nick Cassell combined to throw six scoreless innings to keep the Mountain Hawks in the game.

The Mountain Hawks are hitting a league-leading .293, led by freshman John Scarr (.375) and junior Tim McKay (.370). McKay and Elson have both reached base in a team-high nine straight games, while senior Joe Abeln's six doubles ranks second in the Patriot League. On the mound, Cassell has recorded a team-leading three saves and is also averaging 11.66 strikeouts per nine innings, which is tied for tenth-best in the nation. Sophomore Kevin Long and junior Nick Stephens each have tallied two wins for the Mountain Hawks.

Mount St. Mary's is 6-5 this season after outscoring New York Institute of Technology 49-19 in a four-game sweep over the weekend. The Mount is batting .263 as a team on the season with 89 hits and 51 RBI and its pitchers have recorded an overall 6.53 ERA. Andrew Clow is hitting a team-leading .429 off 15 hits and seven RBI while Nick Riley has pitched two wins and owns a team-best 1.17 ERA.

Following this weekend's series, the Mountain Hawks will travel to La Salle Tuesday in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic. A free audio broadcast will be available through Lehighsports.com.
