2014 (SENIOR SEASON)
Started all 49 games as a senior co-captain…led the team in runs scored (32), sac flies (4) and hit by pitch (13)…finished the season with 15 multiple hit games and a .301 batting average…went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and 2 RBI in game 4 against Holy Cross to help the Mountain Hawks complete their first Patriot League series sweep since 2010…went 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored against Western Michigan…recorded two RBI in a 2-for-3 showing at the plate against Coppin State…recipient of Lehigh’s Sportsmanship Award at the end-of-year Athletics Convocation…awarded the team’s Coaches Award at the end of the season...named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

2013 (JUNIOR SEASON)
Started all 47 games for Lehigh, including 39 at catcher, five in the outfield and three as the designated hitter…went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against Coppin State…hit 4-for-4 and drove in four runs against Lafayette…went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI against Saint Joseph’s…drove in four runs against Army…hit safely in 33 of 47 games…had a team-best .985 fielding percentage…had a career-high 28 RBI…named to the All-Patriot League Second Team for the second consecutive year.

2012 (SOPHOMORE SEASON)
Played in 47 games, making 42 starts…Finished the season batting .289, two home runs, 25 RBI and 32 runs scored…Went 7-for-16 with six RBI, two doubles, three runs scored and a stolen base from March 9 to March 14 (four games)…Went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored at Delaware State…Hit in 7-of-8 games going 8-for-17 (.471) with three extra-base hits, seven RBI and eight runs scored from March 17 to March 25 (eight games)…Went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored against rival Lafayette…Put together a seven-game hitting streak from April 7 to April 11, going a combined 16-for-24 (.667) with five multi-hit games, five doubles, a triple, home run, stolen base and 13 runs scored…Scored a season-high five runs in a 4-for-4 effort that included three doubles and a RBI against Scranton.

2011 (FRESHMAN SEASON)
Appeared in 22 games, starting 12 … Hit two home runs … Went 1-for-2 with his first home run, two RBI and a run score at Delaware State…Went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored against Army…Went 1-for-3 with two RBI, two walks and two runs scored against Coppin State… Took Central Michigan deep for his second home run of the season in a 1-for-3 effort …Went 6-for-15 (.400) with four RBI, four runs scored and two extra-base hits from March 27 to April 18.

BEFORE LEHIGH
Joe Abeln is an outfielder from Allentown, Pa., where he was a three-year varsity player at Parkland High School. Abeln was part of the Trojan team that was State runner-up in 2009, District 4A champions in 2009, runner-up in 2010, and Lehigh Valley Conference Champions in 2008 and 2009. The Morning Call All-League Honorable mention catcher in 2010, Abeln was selected for the Seppe All Star Classic in his senior season, of which he batted .425 overall, earning him Parkland High School’s team MVP award. A three-year Carpenter Cup selection (’08, ’09, ’10), Abeln was also a stand-out in the classroom, earning the 2010 Scholar Athlete Award, as well as making Presidents List all four years, having maintained a 4.0 or higher GPA. A team captain, Abeln graduated Parkland with 65 hits, 54 runs, 40 RBI’s, and a .348 batting average, while his team posted a 59-15 record.
