Bialkowski's big day leads to Patriot League weekly honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior quarterback Brandon Bialkowski has been named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week it was announced Monday. Bialkowski enjoyed the finest day of his college career and posted one of the finest statistical games in school history as he helped the Mountain Hawks erase a 22-3 halftime deficit to defeat Princeton 29-28 Saturday night to move to 3-0 on the season.

Bialkowski shined in front of a national television audience on NBC Sports Network, completing a Lehigh single-game record 42 passes (in 57 attempts) for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He completed nearly 74 percent of his passes Saturday night, and was an impressive 25-for-32 for 253 yards and two touchdowns in the second half where the Mountain Hawks outscored the Tigers 26-6. Bialkowski's 430 passing yards were the sixth most in school history and the most since Chris Lum threw for 413 at Fordham in 2011.

The Gilbert, Ariz. product has eclipsed the 300 yard mark in each of his first three starts, with three straight victories including a 20 point fourth quarter comeback and a 19 point halftime comeback.

For the season, Bialkowski is 84-for-125 (67.2 percent) for 1,171 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Among the NCAA leaders, Bialkowski ranks second in the FCS averaging 390.3 passing yards per game. He ranks third in total offense (394.3 ypg) and fourth in overall passing yards and completions per game (28).

Bialkowski's top target, senior Lee Kurfis had another big game Saturday with 13 receptions for 152 yards. Kurfis continues to lead the FCS in receiving yards per game (195) and ranks second in overall receiving yards with 585.

Also Monday, senior safety Tyler Ward earned an honorable mention from the league for his performance on defense. Ward led Lehigh in tackles for the third straight week with ten, and added his second interception in as many games with a first quarter pick against Princeton. Ward is Lehigh's leading tackler with 33 stops through three games.

Following its third straight win to open the 2013 season and its 15th consecutive regular season road win, Lehigh moved up one spot in both major FCS polls. The Mountain Hawks are now ranked 17th in the FCS Coaches Poll and 21st in the Sports Network FCS Top 25.
