BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team will compete in its second event of the fall season when 16 teams convene in Piscataway, N.J. for the Rutgers Invitational beginning on Friday. Two rounds will be played on Friday and one round on Saturday to determine a champion in the 54-hole event.
Lehigh pursues another strong finish after posting the third lowest score among fourteen total teams at the Colgate Invitational last week.
Headlining the field for the Mountain Hawk's is sophomore Harley Abrams, as the returning All-Patriot League performer shot 74 on Sunday at Colgate to finish at two-over par and tied for fourth. Abrams was Lehigh's top finisher at Colgate for the second straight year.
Senior Alex DiClemente and freshman Ethan Wall also contributed to the Mountain Hawks success last week and look to do the same this weekend. DiClemente, a returning All-Patriot League performer, finished tied for ninth while Wall, in his first collegiate event, finished tied for 14th. Junior Zach Allinson also placed in the top 20, finishing tied for 17th.
Lehigh will also see a familiar face this weekend in Rutgers head coach Rob Shutte, who spent two years as the Mountain Hawks' head women's golf coach.
The par-71 Rutgers Golf Course will play to roughly 6,337 yards this weekend and should provide opportunities for good scores. In addition to Lehigh and Rutgers, the field consists of Adelphi, Bethune-Cookman, Fairfield, FDU, Hofstra, La Salle, Manhattan, Monmouth, Rider, St. Francis, St. Peter's, Savannah State, USC Upstate and Wagner. USC Upstate is the two-time defending champion of the event, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
