BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three members of the Patriot League Champion Lehigh men's tennis team were named to All-Patriot League teams Wednesday. Sophomore Ben Gilman was named to the first team for the second time in his career, while junior Mark Goldberg and Mitchell Petersen earned spots on the second team. First year head coach Wouter Hendrix was also named Coach of the Year.
Gilman represents Lehigh on the first team for the second straight year. He is tied for third on the Mountain Hawks with a 15-7 singles record that included a 5-1 mark against Patriot League regular season opponents. The Patriot League Player of the Month for April, Gilman was 9-5 at No. 1 singles and 6-2 at his regular No. 2 flight this season. He won the match clinching point against Holy Cross in the quarterfinals and the championship clinching point against Navy in the league final.
In doubles play, Gilman teamed with senior Andrew Krentz to form Lehigh's most successful team as the duo owns a 16-6 record.
Goldberg and Petersen teamed to form Lehigh's No. 1 doubles pairing as they posted a 12-8 mark playing together at the top flight.
Now a three-time All-Patriot League selection, injuries limited Goldberg to a 6-6 record, playing primarily at the top singles flight but he s
aved his best for when it mattered most, defeating Navy's top player Calvin Mark in straight sets in the Patriot League final. Goldberg earned first team All-League honors in each of his first two seasons.
Petersen earns a spot on the second team for the second consecutive year. He tied for the team lead with a 17-4 singles record, playing primarily at the No. 3 flight. Petersen was 5-1 in Patriot League regular season matches and posted nine wins at No. 2 singles and eight at No. 3.
The league's other major awards went to Army's Asika Isoh, who repeated as Player of the Year, and Bucknell's Nick Bybel, who was named Rookie of the Year.
The Mountain Hawks will play their first-ever NCAA Tournament match Friday at 3 p.m. (CT) against No. 6 Ole Miss.
