Lehigh unveils 2012 football broadcast schedule
8/30/2012 8:04:00 PM | Football
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the 2012 football season set to kick off on Saturday, Lehigh Athletics has announced its football broadcast schedule. This year, at least eight of Lehigh's 11 regular season games will be televised – many available nationwide. For the ninth straight season, Lehigh football games will air live on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley, located at 1230 (WEEX-AM, Easton) and 1320 (WTKZ-AM, Allentown). As always, each and every game will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site as part of Lehigh's GameCentral platform, powered by Stretch Internet. An industry leader in on-line broadcasts, Lehigh Athletics will make available over 200 events on its web site this season.
Lehigh football fans also won't want to miss the Lehigh Sports Magazine – Lehigh's weekly television show featuring highlights and interviews from coaches and student-athletes, including an appearance by head football coach Andy Coen each week. Hosted by WFMZ-TV's Jim Vaughn, the show can be seen Monday nights at 7 p.m. on WFMZ, channel 69 (Service Electric dial position 8) and Lehighsports.com.
Lehigh Athletics enters its 25th season of local, regional, and national football coverage on commercial television led by WFMZ-TV in Allentown, Pa. Nationally, Lehigh football can be seen on both DirecTV as well as on Fox College Sports (available in over 60 million homes via digital cable systems nationwide). The WFMZ-TV signal covers the entire Lehigh Valley, while stretching to Philadelphia, Reading, and Western New Jersey. Locally, Lehigh's first five home games can be seen in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric Cable's award-winning 2 Sports outlet. Service Electric is the area's largest cable provider.
The Mountain Hawks' September 22 game at Liberty will be televised on one of WFMZ's alternate channels, 69.4, which is available on Service Electric on Dial Position 108.
Nationally known and respected announcing teams plus high-quality production are also distinctions of Lehigh football telecasts. Steve Degler (television analyst for Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball) and former Lehigh linebacker Mike Yadush '93 call the action on a national and regional level. Locally, Mike Zambelli (Service Electric Sports Director and voice of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs) joins Yadush to handle the announcing duties. In addition to Lehigh football telecasts on WFMZ-TV, New Century Productions' remote production facilities routinely work with Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the PGA Tour. In 2008, Service Electric became the first television outlet in the country to broadcast all 72 home games for a Minor League Baseball team when SECTV teamed with the IronPigs – Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
In addition, Lehigh's November 10 contest versus Colgate at Goodman Stadium will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network as part of the Patriot League's television agreement with the network. Lehigh and Colgate are both perennial contenders for the Patriot League title, and their annual match-up generally has significant league championship implications.
Lehigh football can be heard on commercial radio exclusively on the home of Lehigh Athletics, ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley (1230 and 1320 AM) beginning with Saturday's season-opener against Monmouth. Well-respected veteran Matt Kerr is back to call the play-by-play for his 16th season. Kerr will be joined in the booth by former Lehigh standouts Kody Fedorcha '00 and Lance Haynes '94. Once again, ESPN Radio's Matt Markus will report live from the sidelines, while teaming with Kerr in the booth for select game broadcasts. Radio coverage begins an hour prior to kick-off with the Countdown to Kick-Off show, hosted by Markus and ESPN Radio Program Director Tom Fallon.
Outside of the local broadcast area, Lehigh fans around the globe will continue to have access to the games through Lehigh's GameCentral portal. Seven of Lehigh's 11 games will again feature live and on-demand streaming video in addition to play-by-play audio on Lehighsports.com. All eleven games will feature the radio call both live and on-demand. On-line broadcasts of Lehigh football are available on a pay-per-view basis, or for just under $8 per month with the purchase of the All-Access pass. Valid through the entire 2012-13 school year, the All-Access pass grants subscribers unlimited live and on-demand (archived) access to every Lehigh broadcast produced throughout the year – over 200 in all.
The Mountain Hawks open their season on Saturday, when Lehigh hosts the Monmouth Hawks at 12:30 p.m. inside Goodman Stadium. The game will be televised live by Service Electric 2 Sports. Radio pre-game coverage gets underway at 11:30 a.m. with the Countdown to Kick-Off Show on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320.
