Fourth place finish for Mountain Hawks at Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team concluded its fall season with a fourth place finish at the Lehigh Invitational, which concluded Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks shot a 301 on Sunday to finish fourth out of eight teams at 603 (302-301).
“We weren't great this weekend but we weren't terrible,” said head coach Henry D'Alberto. “A couple guys struggled but they came back. Andrew (Arnold) had a bad start but played two-under his last 12 holes. Three hundred is usually a good benchmark (for a round) and we were just three worse than that for the weekend. Hopefully we can clean up around the edges. This was a good tune-up for Patriot League's at the end of April'
Junior Alex DiClemente was the top finisher for the Mountain Hawks, tying for ninth place after carding a 149 (74-75). Classmate Andrew Arnold and freshman Harley Abrams were right behind tying for 11th at 150. Arnold followed a 76 on Saturday with a 74 on Sunday, while Abrams followed up a 78 with a 72, the low round for the Mountain Hawks on the weekend.
“We weren't expecting him to do as well as he has, but he has played well all year,” D'Alberto said of Abrams. “He's got a good head about him and he's a good competitor.”
Also competing for the Mountain Hawks sophomore Carlos Kim, who shot 155 (75-80) and tied for 21st and senior Sean Keller, who shot 162 (77-85) and tied for 36th place.
Three Mountain Hawks also competed as individuals, led by senior Chris Hornat, who shot 162 (78-84) to tie for 36th. Sophomore Zach Allinson finished in 40th place at 164 (82-82), while freshman Johnny Heydt shot 165 (79-86) to tie for 41st.
Villanova rolled to the team title with a score of 580 (284-296), 16 shots better than Rutgers. The Wildcats had the top two individuals in Michael Kania (68-75-143) and Steve Skurla (70-74-144).
Fordham captured third place at 600 (295-305), three shots better than the Mountain Hawks. Bucknell finished fifth, 14 strokes behind Lehigh, followed by Lafayette, Siena and Colgate.
The Mountain Hawks will open their spring season in March. Lehigh will host the Patriot League Championship on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club in late April.
