Abrams cards low round on final day of Towson Invitational

GRASONVILLE, Md. – A strong final day on the links propelled the Lehigh men's golf team to a tie for ninth place in the 24-team Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational which wrapped-up Tuesday at Prospect Bay Country Club. The Mountain Hawks shot 311 on Tuesday, their best round of the three-day, 54-hole event to finish with a final score of 940 (313-316-311).
 
Individually, freshman Harley Abrams was the top Lehigh finisher as he shot a final round one over par 73 to tie for eighth at 226 (77-76-73). On a day in which no golfers broke par, Abrams' 73 was the low round of the day.
 
Sophomore Carlos Kim shot the low round of the tournament for the Mountain Hawks with an even par 72 on Sunday, but finished with an 80 on Tuesday to drop into a tie for 13th place at 228 (72-76-80).
 
Others who competed for the Mountain Hawks were junior Alex DiClemente, who carded a final round 78 for his low round of the tournament and tied for 84th at 245 (83-84-78). Two shots behind DiClemente was senior Sean Keller who finished alone in 93rd place at 247 (81-83-83). Junior Andrew Arnold bounced back from an opening round 88 with rounds of 81 and 80 to tie for 97th at 249.
 
William & Mary placed four individuals in the top ten and cruised to the team title with a score of 888 (291-292-305), 25 shots better than second place Loyola (Md.) (302-302-309=913). Rutgers finished in third place followed by Indiana (Pa.) and Central Connecticut State. Lehigh tied with Navy and Fairleigh Dickinson to finish just nine strokes out of the top five.
Jeremy Wells of William & Mary went wire-to-wire to earn medalist honors at even par 216 (68-72-76). Wells bested Zack Kempa of IUP by three strokes, while the Tribe had three of the top five finishers.
 
The Mountain Hawks will return to action at the two-day Lafayette Invitational, beginning Sunday in Easton, Pa.
