Lehigh hosts defending PL Champion Navy on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh tennis team looks to continue its hot play Sunday against the Midshipmen of Navy. The Mountain Hawks come into the match with a 2-1 record in league play and an 11-5 record overall. The Mountain Hawks have been playing well as of late, winning four out of their last five matches, including Patriot League wins over Holy Cross and most recently, Lafayette.
The Mountain Hawks are currently in third place in the Patriot League standings, behind Army and Navy respectively. The Midshipmen are the four time defending league champions and have been playing well all season. They are currently 2-0 in league play and are 14-8 overall this season.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 7-0 shutout of rival Lafayette Tuesday to improve their league record to 2-1. Although the Mountain Hawks shutout the Leopards, the doubles point was highly contested throughout. The singles points were relatively uncontested, with the Mountain Hawks dominating all six singles matches. Senior Troy List and freshman Mark Goldberg picked up their team-leading 12th singles wins respectively, List at No. 1 singles and Goldberg clinching the victory with a win at No. 4 singles.The defending Patriot League Champion Midshipmen are coming off back-to-back wins over Patriot League opponents Colgate and Bucknell. Navy will face Lafayette on Saturday before visiting Lehigh Sunday morning.
Last season the Mountain Hawks fell to the Midshipmen 6-1. The Mountain Hawks had a strong performance from Colin Laffey at No. 2 singles but that wasn't enough. The Mountain Hawks started off strong with a win at number one doubles from Troy List and Laffey but that was it, as Navy won the next two tightly-contested doubles matches. In singles play, the Midshipmen won five matches, including several three-set wins with Laffey accounting for the only point for the Mountain Hawks.
Sunday's match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start from the Lewis Tennis Center.
