BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry heads to the tennis court on Tuesday for the annual matchup between the schools in men's tennis, which will be played on Lehigh's Goodman Campus. The Mountain Hawks will be playing their third Patriot League match in a four day span and will be looking to bounce back from their first league loss to Army on Sunday.
Lehigh split its two league matches over the weekend, blanking Holy Cross 7-0 before suffering a 6-1 setback to first place Army. The Mountain Hawks are now 10-5 on the season and enter Tuesday's match looking for a win to solidify their positioning for the Patriot League tournament, which Lehigh will host beginning April 15.
The Mountain Hawks' top doubles team of seniors Troy List and Collin Laffey has continued to lead the way for Lehigh this spring. The duo won both of its matches over the weekend to move to 12-3 in doubles action this season. List has also been one of Lehigh's top singles performers with an 11-4 mark at No. 1 doubles, while Laffey has gone 8-7 out of the No. 2 spot.
Lafayette enters Tuesday's showdown at 4-6 on the spring season. Like Lehigh, the Leopards spent the weekend at West Point where they fell to Army 5-2 before defeating Holy Cross 7-0. The rivals have one other common opponent as both teams fell to Stetson in early February.
Lehigh won last year's match 5-2 in Easton, and the Mountain Hawks have won four of the last five matches in the series.
The Mountain Hawks have dominated the Leopards so far in the 2010-11 academic year, winning 15 of 17 contests, most recently an 18-9 for Lehigh women's lacrosse on Sunday.
Tuesday's match is slated for a 3 p.m. start and weather permitting will be played on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. In case of foul weather, the match will be moved inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
