Dykstra garners first-ever Patriot League Midfielder of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior midfielder Lauren Dykstra was named the Patriot League's first-ever Midfielder of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. Dykstra played a tremendous two-way game against defending MAAC Champion Marist on Saturday, finishing with a game-high five goals and four caused turnovers to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 13-8 season-opening victory.

Dykstra has now won 14 weekly awards in her career, winning each of the other three awards on multiple occasions as well - Offensive (5), Defensive (3) and Rookie (5) of the Week.

Her five goals came against a Marist team coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago. Saturday marked Dykstra's 15th career game with five or more goals. She proved valuable on both ends of the field as her four caused turnovers were also a game high.

It only took 4:44 for Dykstra to get on the board as she opened the scoring with a free position goal at 25:16. She finished the afternoon 3-for-3 on free position shots. Dykstra added another tally at 18:01 of the first half and then three more in the second, including the game's final goal with 2:05 remaining.

The senior co-captain now owns 190 career goals, 52 from tying the school record. She entered the season as the nation's second leading active scorer while owning the most groundballs among active players.

Junior defender Anna Pierce was also recognized with honorable mention laurels. She held the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Kelly Condon to a single assist and two shots. Pierce also scooped one groundball, helping hold last season's MAAC Champion Marist to only eight goals.

The Mountain Hawks return home for their home opener against Delaware on Saturday. Gametime is set for 1 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
