Men's tennis hands out end-of-season awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s tennis team finished off their season by advancing to the Patriot League semifinals for the first time since 2000, before falling to No. 1 seeded Army, 4-1. The Mountain Hawks finished with a record of 10-12, with a 2-4 record against Patriot League opponents, and defeated Colgate 4-1 in the first round of the Patriot League tournament. Last month head coach Dave Shook handed out his team awards from the recently completed season.
Junior Troy List was awarded the Athlete of the Year award, which is presented to the member of the team who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. List, who was the Patriot League’s Player of the year and named First-Team All-Patriot League selection, went 14-7 at No. 1 singles, while pairing with junior Collin Laffey in doubles to finish with a record of 13-8 at the No. 1 spot.
The Coaches Award, which is awarded to the individual who made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership, went to Laffey. Also a First-Team All-Patriot League selection, Laffey went 11-7 at the No. 2 singles spot, posting an overall singles record of 12-10. In doubles, he played alongside List on the Mountain Hawks’ No. 1 doubles team.
Freshman Andrew Krentz earned the Scholar-Athlete Award, which is given to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Krentz posted an overall singles record of 11-7, including a Patriot League record of 5-1, playing primarily at No. 6 singles. Off the court, Krentz posted a 3.78 GPA in the spring which will earn him a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Krentz also posted an impressive 4.0 GPA in the fall semester.
With no seniors on their 2010 roster, the Mountain Hawks will return their entire squad for the 2010-11 season, led by rising seniors List, Laffey, Chris Collins, Arnaldo Pacheco and Cameron Silbert.
