BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A busy several days lie ahead for the Lehigh men’s tennis team, beginning Friday evening as the Mountain Hawks kick off a stretch of three matches in four days by taking on Temple at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to bounce back from a close 4-3 loss to Army in their Patriot League opener on Tuesday, a setback which dropped Lehigh to 6-5 this season.
Following the Temple match, Lehigh will be off Saturday and will head to West Point, N.Y. to face Holy Cross in a neutral site match on Sunday before returning home to face Stony Brook on Monday.
On Tuesday, Lehigh spotted the visiting Black Knights a 3-0 lead before mounting a late comeback that came up just short. Juniors Troy List and Collin Laffey continued their recent strong play with wins at the top two singles flights against Army’s top two players. List continues to lead the Mountain Hawks with an 8-3 singles record, while he and Laffey own a team-best 6-4 doubles mark playing together at the No. 1 flight. Freshman Andrew Krentz accounted for Lehigh’s third point versus Army with a win at No. 6 singles.
Temple enters Friday’s match at 5-7 overall. The Owls swept through Fordham and St. Francis (N.Y.) on Sunday winning both home matches by 7-0 scores. Temple has won four of its last five overall, after a slow start to the spring season. Friday’s match gets underway at 5 p.m. from the Lewis Tennis Center.
Sunday, Lehigh will head to West Point to face a Holy Cross team that will be in town for league matches against Army and Lafayette on Friday and Saturday. The Crusaders opened spring play with four straight losses before downing Springfield 4-3 on Wednesday. Sunday’s match is slated for a 1 p.m. start from Army’s campus.
The extended weekend concludes on Monday when Lehigh hosts Stony Brook. The Seawolves are off to a strong start this spring with a 7-4 record that includes wins over Army and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Mountain Hawks and Seawolves will close out the weekend with a 5 p.m. match Monday evening.
