BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s tennis team looks to continue its winning ways this weekend as the Mountain Hawks will host a pair of matches at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will host Georgetown Saturday morning before welcoming Drexel on Sunday for a women’s-men’s doubleheader. Lehigh has won its last four matches to overcome an 0-3 start to the spring season.
Last weekend Lehigh cruised to three victories, handling St. Francis (N.Y.) 7-0 and Monmouth 5-2 on Saturday before cruising past Mount St. Mary’s 6-1 on Sunday.
Junior Troy List has led the way for the Mountain Hawks, with a 5-2 record at No. 1 singles. He has also partnered with classmate Collin Laffey to post a 4-2 mark as Lehigh’s No. 1 doubles team. Lehigh has also enjoyed greater depth this season, as eight different Mountain Hawks have earned team points with singles victories, including freshmen Matt Savran, Andrew Krentz and Matt Fink who are combined 6-2 in singles play.
Lehigh will open the weekend against Georgetown. Weather has affected the Hoyas early season schedule as three cancellations have not allowed Georgetown to play a match this month. Georgetown enters the weekend at 2-2 with wins over Campbell and James Madison and losses to VCU and Maryland. Prior to playing Lehigh, Georgetown will face Bucknell Friday night at Lehigh’s Lewis Tennis Center.
On Sunday, Lehigh will take on a Drexel team that is 0-2 on the spring season. The Dragons won two dual matches in the fall, but fell 6-1 to Penn on January 23 and 4-3 to St. Peter’s last Sunday. Drexel and Lehigh have met regularly over the last several years, with the Dragons winning the last two meetings, including a 4-3 triumph last season.
Saturday’s Lehigh-Georgetown match gets underway at 11 a.m. from the Lewis Tennis Center, while Sunday’s Lehigh-Drexel match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
