Lehigh wraps up action at the New Balance Invite

NEW YORK – The Lehigh track and field teams finished up a busy weekend at the 2010 New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday night. The Mountain Hawks battled it out with over 140 different colleges in the New York Armory and put up some good results against tough competition.
The fast track at the Armory allowed for Lehigh to put up some of its best track results of the season. Sophomore Katherine Pierce ran a strong 5000-meters (17:43.73) which gave her an eighth place finish. Her time in the race is the second fastest 5000 time in the Patriot League this season and sets a new personal record.
Freshman Brittany Pietrosh (2:20.20) and sophomore Alexandra Neville (2:20.90) both ran a strong 800, finishing 50th and 52nd, respectively. Both of their times are in the top-10 fastest times in the Patriot League. Another freshman, Alyssa Donahue finished 17th in the 500 with a time of 1:18.82. Junior Andrea Mascaro now holds the sixth fastest one mile in the Patriot League this season, after she finished in 25th with a time of 5:08.93 which is a career-best.
Co-captain Jillian Randolph had her best meet of the season as she finished 26th in the 1000-meters with a time of 2:59.82 which is a new PR. Her time is now the seventh fastest in the Patriot League. Another senior, Ashlee Atwell tied her record that she set last weekend and once again had a vault of 11’ 9.75” to earn a seventh place finish in the pole vault. Kathryn McLaughlin finished fifth in her heat (high jump) with a jump of 5' 2.99". Senior Kaitlin Grimm rounded out the strong performances by the seniors and finished 11th in the 3000-meters with a time of 10:10.85 which is a career-best.
On the men’s side, Nick Ray continued his strong season as he finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 53’ 3”. Freshman Christopher Buck finished 22nd in the shot put with a throw of 49' 10.42". Junior Kyle O’Connor placed 25th in the 1000-meters with a time of 2:33.16. Three Mountain Hawks finished the 5000 in the top-10: junior Stephen Sample seventh (15:13.08), junior Evans Kosgei eighth (15:14.23) and senior Douglas Ridyard ninth (15:21.38).
Freshman Vincent Chiusano was one second off qualifying for IC4As in the 1000-meters as he finished 22nd with a time of 2:33.77. Junior Evan Flach finished 12th in the 3000 with a time of 8:33.19.
