Lehigh, Lafayette to renew rivalry on the court

Lehigh opens up its 2006 Patriot League slate on Tuesday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks welcome their archrivals, the Lafayette Leopards to the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks snapped a three match losing streak with a 6-1 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday and will now begin their quest towards a return trip to the Patriot League Tournament.

Junior Cessa Murasko-Blank leads Lehigh with eight singles wins this season, while junior Lindsay Long has added six victories playing mostly fifth singles. Junior co-captain Gwen Dwyer is currently 5-8 at first singles and will look to make her mark in the highly competitive Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks are 6-7 on the season and are looking to climb back to .500 with a win on Tuesday.

Lafayette comes in with a 6-1 record in the spring season and the Leopards have won their last three matches, including a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks have won the last four meetings in the series, including a 5-2 win last season in Easton.

Tuesday’s match gets underway at 3:00 from the Lewis Tennis Center on Lehigh’s Goodman Campus.
