BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh opened up the first of two fall tennis events on the Goodman Campus Saturday as the Mountain Hawks hosted day one of the Lehigh Men’s and Women’s Team Tennis Challenge. Women’s teams from Temple, Delaware and Army joined the Mountain Hawks for the first of two days of matches. Saturday’s action saw Lehigh play Temple in both singles and doubles as well as singles action against Delaware.
The Mountain Hawks lone win of the day came in doubles action versus Temple, where Lehigh’s team of senior Stacey Reich and freshman Patricia Muething earned an 8-2 win over Josephine Bergman and Mellana Cramer. The Owls swept all four singles matches with senior Julie Arthofer and sophomore Liz Piscitelli representing Lehigh at the top two flights and Reich and Muething playing at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively.
In singles action against Delaware the visiting Fightin’ Blue Hens swept six singles matches from the Mountain Hawks taking all six in straight sets.
The Lehigh Men’s and Women’s Team Tennis Challenge concludes Sunday on the Ulrich Varsity Courts and inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
