BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team opened up play at the Lehigh Fall Tennis Championships by winning four of five matches against teams from Marist and Fordham Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Heavy rains forced all action indoors and exclusively to doubles play, as six Mountain Hawks saw action and picked up victories on the day.
The Mountain Hawks opened the day with two victories over Marist. Lehigh’s top team of senior Julie Arthofer and sophomore Liz Piscitelli downed Jeanne Lukin and Kayla O’Donovan 8-2 while freshmen Patricia Muething and Abbey Perl blanked Joanna Macaluso and Juliana Boras 8-0.
Later in the day, Lehigh won two-of-three matches from Fordham. The Mountain Hawks’ No. 3 team of Perl and Kiera Murasko-Blank won convincingly over Brittany Russell and Jenny Mullen 8-3. Muething was teamed with senior Stacey Reich at No. 2 doubles, and the tandem overcame a 7-4 deficit to win 9-8, including 7-5 in the tiebreak. Arthofer and Piscitelli also went to a tiebreak, but fell 9-8 (8-6) to Sarah Tremaine and Martina Featherston.
The Lehigh Fall Tennis Championships conclude Sunday on the Goodman Campus.
