BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh opens up a three-match home-stand with a pair of home contests this weekend inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will welcome Stony Brook on Friday afternoon before squaring off against Delaware on Sunday morning. Lehigh posted a 1-1 record on its spring break trip to Florida and currently sits at 3-5 on the spring season.
After dropping its Florida opener 7-2 to Florida Tech, the Mountain Hawks battled back with a 6-1 win over Lewis University last Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks swept all three doubles matches and won five singles matches against Lewis, stopping a three-match losing streak in the process.
The Mountain Hawks have been led by the bottom of their singles lineup, where junior Stacey Reich and senior Ruthie Furman have combined to go 11-2 in singles action this spring. Reich owns a perfect 4-0 mark this season when slotted at No.5 singles, while Furman is 3-1 at No. 5 singles and 3-0 at No. 6 singles. Lehigh’s top doubles team has been the No. 2 tandem of junior Julie Arthofer and freshman Liz Piscitelli, who are 4-3 so far this season.
On Friday, Lehigh will face a Stony Brook team that opened its season with three straight wins over St. John’s, Army and UConn before falling to Boston University by a 5-2 score on February 28. On Sunday, the Mountain Hawks will close out the weekend against a Delaware squad that will be opening its spring season. The Fightin’ Blue Hens were 12-3 last year, including a 5-0 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Action gets underway Friday at 2 p.m. when Lehigh faces Stony Brook. The Lehigh-Delaware match is slated for a 10 a.m. start on Sunday.
