Junior Randall Smalley was the winner of the team’s Athlete of the Year Award, given to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishment of the team. Smalley excelled this season, posting a 9-9 singles record including a 4-2 mark in league matches while playing at the second flight. He also has the best doubles record on the team at 10-8. The Coaches Award went to senior Andrew Shapiro. The award is given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. A team captain, Shapiro showed great leadership for the Mountain Hawks and was a versatile doubles performer as well. He posted a 5-10 record playing at all three doubles flights. Freshman John Nespoli took home the program’s highest honor as he received the Scholar-Athlete award. Given to the student-athlete who best combines academics and athletics, Esler boasts a 3.62 grade point average in business, and performed very well this season, with an 11-6 record in singles.
