Esler earns Patriot League honors

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh sophomore tennis player Ty Esler was named Thursday to the Men’s Tennis All-Patriot League Second Team. The distinction is the first such honor for Esler. The team is voted upon by the coaches in the Patriot League and is comprised of a first and second team, along with a Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year. Esler guided Lehigh’s men to a 7-9 overall record, 1-5 in the Patriot League. Esler alternated between first and third singles for a majority of his matches this season. At those spots, the sophomore managed a 6-9 record, while going 0-1 at second singles. In doubles player, Esler teamed with Ryan Cann, compiling an 8-6 mark. In league matches, Esler went 3-2 in singles play and 1-4 in doubles action. "I’m very happy for Ty," said head coach Dave Shook. "He has worked hard for two years and truly deserves this recognition." Esler will return next season as the team’s lone captain and will also be one of nine returning players for coach Shook’s squad.
