Florida Gulf Coast sinks Lehigh

Ft. Myers, FL – The men’s tennis squad returned to action on Thursday in Ft. Myers, Florida and was defeated 8-1 by Florida Gulf Coast University. With the loss the Mountain Hawks fall to 4-3.
Lehigh was swept 3-0 in doubles action. Ty Esler and Ryan Cann fell 9-7, Jonathan Swanson and Craig Ditman were defeated 8-4, and Randall Smalley and Andrew Shapiro were upended 8-0.
On the singles side, Lehigh won only one match. Jeff Samuels came out on top in sixth singles, winning 3-6, 6-4 (16-14). Only one other match went more than two sets and that came at third singles as Randall Smalley was set back 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
The Mountain Hawks return to action Friday afternoon in Orlando vs. Indianapolis. Lehigh’s next home match will be Saturday, March 29th vs. Army. The Army match will also serve as the start to Patriot League competition.
