Lafayette overpowers Mountain Hawks

Easton, PA – Lehigh fought a hard battle against its archrival Lafayette on Monday afternoon, but the Mountain Hawks could not withstand the Leopards wrath, recording a 4-3 loss in the end. This was Lehigh’s ninth loss of the season, dropping them to 0-4 in the Patriot League. Lafayette improves their record to 7-7 for their season, recording their first Patriot League win. The Mountain Hawks were unable to hold up in singles play, dropping four of the six matches to Lafayette. Freshman Ty Esler pulled out an impressive victory at the second spot, recording a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lafayette’s H’Cone Thompson. Matt Dankner won the decision at third singles, with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Andrew Shapiro and Brad Wimmer, at fifth and sixth singles respectively, both fought hard through three set matches, but neither one was able to secure a victory. Lehigh took the doubles point, recording wins in two of the three matches. The Mountain Hawks’ first doubles duo of Cann and Dankner took their match, 8-4, over Coin and Thompson of Lafayette. Lehigh’s Esler and Shapiro shut out Murphy and Karapetian at number two, with an 8-0 win. Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday when it takes on Bloomsburg, with the action beginning at 3:00. Singles
