Lehigh men complete sweep

Bethlehem, PA – The Lehigh men’s tennis team completed a sweep of Howard and Wagner on Sunday afternoon at the Lewis Tennis Center. The women’s team got things started on Saturday with wins over the two schools and the men completed the sweep with a 6-1 win over Howard (0-1) in the morning and a 7-0 win over Wagner (0-1) in the afternoon. "Our match against Howard was really a great match," said head coach Dave Shook. "We really had to battle in a bunch of matchups but we fought hard and came through with the win. Although it was a 6-1 score, it was a much closer match than the score indicates." Ryan Cann led the Mountain Hawks with a pair of wins at number one singles. Against Howard, Cann topped Lorant Fuezesi in straight sets and against Wagner he rolled over Pruett also in straight sets. Cann improved his record at number one singles to 2-2 on the season. Freshmen Ty Esler and Andrew Shapiro both swept their singles matches and split their doubles matches. The freshmen doubles pair lost the only doubles match against Howard but rebounded against Wagner for an 8-2 win in number one doubles. Lehigh (2-2) returns to action on Saturday morning when it hosts a pair of schools from Philadelphia. The Mountain Hawks are scheduled to take on Drexel at 9:30am followed by St. Joseph’s at 4:00.
