BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off its return from Florida, Lehigh is set to host three matches on a busy weekend inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will take on Stony Brook on Friday, Niagara and Delaware on Sunday in their final tune-ups before Lehigh begins the Patriot League slate next weekend against Colgate.
Lehigh enters the weekend at 4-9 overall after a 1-2 showing during its spring break trip to Florida. The Mountain Hawks picked up a win over Lewis University, but dropped matches to Florida Tech and Stetson. Lehigh returns home to the Lewis Tennis Center, where the Mountain Hawks own three of their four wins this season.
Leading the way for the Brown and White has been sophomore Troy List, the Patriot League Player of the Month for February. List won his last six singles matches to close out the month, and leads the Mountain Hawks with a 7-6 overall record at No. 1 singles, while teaming with sophomore Collin Laffey to go 7-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Lehigh opens the weekend with a Friday evening matchup against Stony Brook. The Seawolves are 4-3 on the spring season on the heels of a 4-3 victory at Princeton on Sunday. Stony Brook also owns wins over Georgetown, UConn and Patriot League member Army. Friday’s match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first serve.
On Saturday, the Mountain Hawks will square off against Niagara at 2 p.m. The Purple Eagles are 2-5 on the spring, with wins over Saint Peter’s and Rider in their last two matches. The match will pit Laffey against his former team as he transferred to Lehigh from Niagara after playing for the Purple Eagles last season. Niagara knocked-off Lehigh 4-3 last season here in Bethlehem. The Purple Eagles will also play Stony Brook on Saturday.
The busy weekend wraps up on Sunday when the Mountain Hawks play host to the Fightin’ Blue Hens of Delaware at 2 p.m. Delaware comes in at 0-2 in the spring with losses to Maryland and Navy. The Fightin’ Blue Hens did defeat Lehigh 5-2 last year at the Lewis Tennis Center.
The Mountain Hawks will open Patriot League play on Sunday, March 22 against Colgate in Syracuse, N.Y.
