BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh was picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League’s preseason poll, announced by the league on Friday. The Mountain Hawks garnered 30 points in the poll, tying them with rival Lafayette for the No. 5 spot in the poll, which is voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Lehigh finished sixth in the league standings before falling to No. 3 Bucknell in last year’s Patriot League tournament.
The Mountain Hawks lost just two seniors to graduation and return a group that is young, but still gained invaluable experience last season. Mike Gordon and Jon-Michael Caminiti are the senior members of the team, while sophomore Troy List is Lehigh’s top returning player from a year ago. Head coach Dave Shook has bolstered his lineup with the addition of transfer Collin Laffey and three freshmen to the program.
Defending tournament champion Navy was picked to finish first in the poll, with 12 out of a possible 14 first place votes. Second place Army garnered the other two first place votes, with Bucknell and Colgate rounding out the top four. Holy Cross, picked seventh, rounds out the poll.
The Mountain Hawks will open their spring season on Sunday February 1, when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at the Lewis Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
