Coen continued, “The positive about having some other guys take so many reps is it gives them a chance to figure things out. We have a lot of talented freshmen, but they aren’t sure of what’s going on just yet. Our freshmen quarterbacks are swimming in the amount of information being thrown at them, but we’ll get there. They have to slow down the offense and it will start to come.”
When asked who has been impressive in the early going, Coen was quick to point out a pair of wide receivers. “Pete Donchez and Sekou Yansane have both looked very good, I’m pleased with that, and as a whole the defensive backs, as I expected, have looked the best of all the positional groups.” He continued, “(Senior quarterback) Sedale (Threatt) has played well, he’s looking more and more comfortable in the system everyday. The offensive line is coming together; we’ll find more answers along both lines as we move through camp.”
Coen mentioned several freshmen that have stuck out thus far, including offensive lineman Will Rackley, running back Jaren Walker, wide receiver Travis Artim, and defensive back Jerard Cribbs.
The Mountain Hawks lost half of their practice time on Friday when a thunderstorm hit the area just before the team was set to take the field. Lehigh will hold a double session on Sunday, practicing early in the morning and again in the evening.
NOTES FROM CAMP … fifth year senior corner back Brannan Thomas made a nice read and stepped in front of an attempted pass, intercepting the ball and returning it for a touchdown on Saturday … both of Lehigh’s top two tailbacks, Matt McGowan and Josh Pastore, missed Saturday’s scrimmage due to injury … in all, nearly 20 Mountain Hawks were sidelined on Saturday with some form of injury … junior wide receiver Sekou Yansane was impressive throughout the scrimmage making several tough catches in traffic.
