BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a come-from-behind victory over Villanova on Saturday evening, Lehigh had two players recognized on Monday by the Patriot League for their efforts in the 31-28 victory. Junior quarterback Sedale Threatt was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while classmate Frank Trovato was honored as the Special Teams Player of the Week. For Threatt, it is the third weekly award of his career, while Trovato earns his first career league honor.
With 300 total yards versus the Wildcats, Threatt posted the 13th best individual performance in the country of the young 2006 season. The Massachusetts native threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns, and was also the Mountain Hawks leading rusher with 77 yards on the ground. Through two games this season, the junior captain has thrown for over 360 yards and three scores, while registering a passing efficiency mark of 131.62. Threatt has also not yet thrown an interception this season.
The second of Threatt’s two touchdown passes on Saturday evening went to Trovato, who recorded his second career receiving TD with the 18-yard grab. Trovato however, did his most damage on special teams, taking a punt back 57 yards down the right sideline for the game-tying touchdown midway through the second quarter. In all, Trovato registered 65 yards on punt returns, and 142 all-purpose yards. Through two games this season, the Bethlehem native is Lehigh’s leading return man and he is tied for the team lead in pass receptions.
Also on Monday, the Patriot League announced that sophomore running back Matt McGowan and junior defensive back Ernest Moore put forth honorable mention performances in the victory over Villanova. McGowan rushed for 49 yards on the evening on nine carries, including the game-winning touchdown with three minutes remaining. Moore, who is the Mountain Hawks leading tackler through two games, recorded a game-high seven solo stops versus the Wildcats and finished the evening with 12 tackles, including one for a loss.
Lehigh and its award winners return to the gridiron on Saturday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks welcome Princeton to Goodman Stadium on Wachovia Community Day.
