Bergen, Alfsen honored by Football Gazette

Bethlehem, PA – Two Lehigh football players have been honored for their outstanding performance on the gridiron last season. It was announced on Wednesday that tight end Adam Bergen and defensive end Tom Alfsen have been named to the Football Gazette NCAA I-AA All-America first and second teams respectively. Alfsen returned from injury as a junior to put together quite a stellar senior campaign in 2004. He led the team in tackles for a loss (11) and sacks (10), while ranking second on the squad in total tackles (59). His ten sacks ranked fourth in the Patriot League. Alfsen was also named to the Football Gazette’s All-Atlantic second team, has been recognized by the ECAC, the Walter Camp Football Foundation as an All-American defensive lineman, and he was also named to The Sports Network’s third team. Lehigh captured a share of its seventh Patriot League title in 2004. The 2005 Mountain Hawks open their season on September 3 against NEC champion Monmouth at Goodman Stadium.
