The Philadelphia Eagles are set to begin training camp at Lehigh and are once again face to face with high expectations.
The players begin to arrive on July 27 to prepare for the start of training camp the following day.
They hope to win their fourth straight NFC East championship on the road to the Super Bowl.
This is the tenth consecutive year the Eagles have come to Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus for training camp. Fans can watch practice on the John C. Whitehead Practice Fields and get a glimpse of their favorite players for no admission fee. In addition to a free view of the Eagles in action, other nearby activities include an autograph tent, activities for children, and ample parking for the nearly 100,000 fans that come from throughout the region to watch the camp. The Eagles also offer NFL-style skills tests to fans on the adjacent Lehigh outdoor track. For only $3, fans can practice kicking a field goal, do a bungie run, or play on a nine-hole miniature golf course.
During their three-week stay at Lehigh, the Eagles lift weights in the A. Haigh Cundey Varsity House – Lehigh's new strength training center, practice on Lehigh's three natural grass fields and artificial surface, and stay in newly renovated, air-conditioned dormitory rooms. Each day of camp the Eagles have two practice sessions: the first begins at 8:30 am, and the second takes place at approximately 2:30 pm. Many of these sessions are open to the public. Swarms of Philadelphia and local newspapers, as well as television and radio networks are present to cover the Eagle's activities each day.
In addition to the media coverage, it seems the Eagles may be bringing some good luck to Lehigh's fields. Since the Eagles began coming to Lehigh for training camp in 1995, Lehigh's football squad is 70-25, claiming Patriot League titles and NCAA playoff berths in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001.
