Bethlehem, PA – Although football season traditionally gets underway in the fall, one former Lehigh star is making headlines in late May. Former Lehigh standout Phil Stambaugh has been inked to a deal with the Phialdelphia Eagles. The Eagles open rookie camp today.
Stambaugh, a 1999 Lehigh graduate, spent much of last season as a member of the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe, impressing several scouts. In August, he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being released later that month.
While at Lehigh, Stambaugh set a number of passing records. He holds school records for most career touchdowns (78), completions (818), yards (9,669), and completion percentage (63.71%). As a junior, Stambaugh was the Patriot League’s Player of the Year.
The Eagles open their annual training camp on Lehigh’s Goodman Campus with a team meeting beginning on Friday, July 30.
