Bethlehem, PA – With opening day less than a week away, Lehigh held its annual media day on Friday inside Goodman Stadium. Members of the media met with the team, and the players also posed for individual photos and a team picture. Head coach Pete Lembo also announced to the group that junior Matt Shiels will be the starting quarterback in the Mountain Hawks’ opener against the University at Buffalo on August 29.
"We’re excited for him and know he’ll do a great job," Lembo told the radio, television, and newspaper media members on hand. "Matt has got a very, very strong arm, and the entire team is behind him."
Lehigh wrapped up its two-a-day practices on Thursday, as the first contest rapidly approaches. "It’s been a long camp, a hot camp, and our guys are getting anxious," Lembo explained.
Lehigh has won four straight Patriot League championships, and is ranked number 6 nationally in The Sports Network preseason poll, and seventh in the ESPN/USA Today preseason poll. The Mountain Hawks travel to Buffalo to battle the Bulls next week. Lehigh will take on a Division I-A opponent for the first time since battling Army in 1995. Kick-off for Thursday’s opener is set for 7:30 from Amherst, New York.
