Another perfect regular season

Bethlehem, PA – Senior Josh Snyder caught 11 passes for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead fifth ranked Lehigh past arch-rival Lafayette 41-6 in the 137th meeting of college football’s most played rivalry. Snyder earned the game’s MVP honors as he continued to make up a large part of the Lehigh offense. With the win, Lehigh improved to 10-0 on the season and extended its regular season winning streak to 23 games, and its home winning streak to 22 games.
Lafayette had chances to make a statement early in the game, but their failure to capitalize in the red-zone proved costly. What little momentum the Leopards had shifted to the Mountain Hawks and dashed any hopes they had of an upset. Jermaine Pugh capped a 38-yard Lehigh drive with a five yard touchdown run, and Josh Snyder caught a Brant Hall Pass for a 17 yard score to give Lehigh a 14-6 halftime lead.
The Mountain Hawks wasted no time getting on the board in the second half when Hall found Snyder on the third play of the opening drive for a 41-yard touchdown to put Lehigh up 21-6, much to the delight of the fans at a sold out Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawk defense and special teams took over from there. The defense forced three straight Lafayette punts, with the third resulting in an 85-yard touchdown return by Jermaine Pugh. Pugh is the first Mountain Hawk since Mark Lookenbill to return a punt for a touchdown. Lookenbill did so on September 14, 1991 against Fordham. Special teams struck again in the fourth quarter when Matt Salvaterra blocked a Lafayette punt, and Sam Perryman fell on the ball in the end zone for the score.
Lehigh will now sit and wait for the NCAA playoff selection committee to determine where the Mountain Hawks will play their first round playoff game. The Mountain Hawks captured their fourth straight Patriot League Championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament this season with a perfect 10-0 record.
