Lehigh football fans also won’t want to miss the Lehigh Sports Magazine – Lehigh’s weekly television show featuring highlights and interviews from coaches and student-athletes, including an appearance by head football coach Andy Coen each week. Hosted by WFMZ-TV’s Jim Vaughn, the show can be seen Monday nights at 8:30 pm on WFMZ-TV and Lehighsports.com.
Lehigh Athletics enters its 22nd season of local, regional, and national football coverage on commercial television led by WFMZ-TV in Allentown, Pa. Nationally, Lehigh football can be seen on both DirecTV and DISH Network, as well as on Fox College Sports (available in over 56 million homes via digital cable systems nationwide). Regionally on FSN Pittsburgh, fans in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Scranton and parts of Maryland, West Virginia, and Ohio can follow Lehigh football all season long. The WFMZ-TV signal covers the entire Lehigh Valley, while stretching to Philadelphia, Reading, and Western New Jersey. Locally, Lehigh’s first six home games can be seen in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric Cable’s award-winning 2 Sports outlet. Service Electric is the area’s largest cable provider.
Nationally known and respected announcing teams plus high-quality production are also distinctions of Lehigh football telecasts. Steve Degler (television analyst for Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball), former Lehigh quarterback and Penske Hall of Fame member Marty Horn ’86 and former Lehigh linebacker Mike Yadush ’93 call the action on a national and regional level. Locally, Mike Zambelli (Service Electric Sports Director and voice of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball team) joins Yadush to handle the announcing duties. In addition to Lehigh football telecasts on WFMZ-TV, New Century Productions’ remote production facilities routinely work with Major League Baseball, the National Football League, and the PGA Tour. In 2008, Service Electric became the first television outlet in the country to broadcast all 72 home games for a Minor League Baseball team when SECTV teamed with the IronPigs – Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Lehigh football can be heard on commercial radio exclusively on the home of Lehigh Athletics, ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley (1230 and 1320 AM). Well-respected veteran Matt Kerr is back to call the play-by-play for his 13th season. Kerr will be joined in the booth by former Lehigh standouts Marty Horn '86 and Kody Fedorcha '00, as they team up to provide color commentary. Once again, ESPN Radio’s Matt Markus will report live from the sidelines for every Lehigh football broadcast. Radio coverage begins an hour prior to kick-off with the Countdown to Kick-Off show, hosted by Markus and ESPN Radio Program Director Tom Fallon.
For the second consecutive season, WLVR-FM will return to Goodman Stadium to broadcast Lehigh’s seven home football games. Located at 91.3 FM, WLVR is Lehigh University’s student-run radio station.
Outside of the local broadcast area, Lehigh fans around the globe will continue to have access to the games through Yahoo! College Broadcast. Nine of Lehigh’s 11 games will again feature live and on-demand streaming video in addition to play-by-play audio on Lehighsports.com. All eleven games will feature the radio call both live and on-demand. Other exclusive on-line events include streaming video highlights from Lehigh’s weekly football media luncheon, available on-demand each week beginning Wednesday afternoons. On-line broadcasts of Lehigh football are being underwritten by the Lehigh Athletics Partnership and will be free of charge in 2009. The Athletics Partnership is the fundraising arm for the department, funding travel, recruiting and more.
The 2009 Mountain Hawks open their season on Saturday, September 5, when Lehigh plays host to Central Connecticut State at Goodman Stadium. Radio pre-game coverage gets underway at 11:30 a.m., with Service Electric 2 Sports air time at 12:30 p.m.
