BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Mountain Hawks were recently named 2009 preseason All-Americans by Consensus Draft Services (CDS) as rising senior Matt Cohen and rising junior Jarard Cribbs received honorable mention accolades. Cohen is a two-time All-Patriot League selection, including First-Team recognition in 2008, while Cribbs was a Second-Team All-League honoree this past season. This marks the second consecutive season Lehigh has placed at least one player on the CDS preseason All-America teams after Brian Jackson ’09 received the honor last year.
One of the top linebackers in the Patriot League, Cohen led the league in sacks (6.5) and tackles-for-loss (17.5) a season ago. A 2009 captain, Cohen started all 11 games in 2008, totaling 53 tackles, one fumble recovery and three interceptions. He returned a fumble 38 yards for his first career touchdown in a win over Bucknell and registered five tackles, including one-for-loss, one-half sack and a quarterback hurry in the Mountain Hawks win over archrival Lafayette.
Cribbs earned a spot on the All-League teams after leading the PL in interceptions (three) and pass breakups (ten). Cribbs made 38 stops for the year, including 1.5-for-loss, and totaled two pass breakups in three games. The Maryland native also doubled as the Mountain Hawks punt returner, returning 24 punts for 196 yards, including an electric 82-yarder that he took to pay dirt versus Cornell.
Lehigh opens its 2009 season on Saturday, September 5 versus the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at Goodman Stadium. Kick-off is set for 12:30.
