BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh opens Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon versus the defending league champion Fordham Rams at Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawks fell to Cornell last weekend 25-24 in a back-and-forth affair that came down to the last play. Sophomore J.B. Clark had the best showing of his young career under center, throwing for 264 yards and one score, and rushing for another touchdown, while classmate Jarard Cribbs returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown - the second longest punt return for a score in Goodman Stadium history. Fordham was last in action on September 27 when the Rams fell to Colgate in their Patriot League opener 31-24 in the Bronx. That game featured 723 total yards of offense by the two teams and 17 combined points in the final 11:37.
The Rams enter this weekend looking to bounce back from a 31-24 Patriot League opening loss to Colgate two weeks ago at home. Fordham’s defense saw All-American Jordan Scott run wild to the tune of 272 yards and four touchdowns. FU led 24-21 with 11:37 left in the contest, but a Jacob Stein field goal tied the score, and Scott won it for Colgate with a three-yard run with just nine seconds remaining. The preseason favorite to repeat as league champions, Fordham returned eight starters on each side of the ball this season, as well as 57 letterwinners.
Lehigh sophomore Craig Zurn had a breakout day against Cornell. The Jim Thorpe native hauled in three passes for 42 yards and carried the ball once for 13 yards. The business major also had the key block on classmate Jarard Cribbs’ 84-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 12:30 from Goodman Stadium. Tickets are still available and can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall between the hours of 10 and 4 or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
