BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Jarard Cribbs was named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Cribbs returned three punts for a total of 89 yards in the Mountain Hawks contest with Cornell, including an 84-yarder that he took back for a touchdown. The 84-yard return was the second longest punt return for a touchdown in Goodman Stadium history.
In Saturday’s tilt versus Cornell, Cribbs fielded a punt at his own 16-yard line with 14 seconds remaining on the first half clock. The Maryland native methodically made his way up the right sideline, and after receiving a great block from classmate Craig Zurn, sprinted to pay dirt for the longest punt return by any Lehigh player since 2001. That score put Lehigh ahead 12-10 over the Big Red as the first half clock expired.
For the season Cribbs has returned nine punts for a total of 120 yards, good for an average of 13.3 per. Cribbs’ 13.3 yard per punt return is currently 16th best in America and second best in the Patriot League.
Cribbs and the rest of the Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 11 when they play host to Fordham in the 2008 Patriot League opener. Game time is set for 12:30 from Goodman Stadium and tickets can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall, or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
