BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh returns to Goodman Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the first time since September 6 as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Big Red of Cornell to town on Alumni Day. Lehigh fell to Princeton last weekend in New Jersey in heartbreaking fashion as the Tigers won 10-7 on a Connor Louden field goal as time expired. The Mountain Hawks defense did all it could to give the Brown and White a chance to win, including several strong stands inside the red zone and a blocked field goal attempt, but Lehigh’s offense was unable to muster any points other than a second quarter touchdown. Cornell enters this weekend’s game having won each of its two games this season, which includes a 17-14 victory over Ivy League preseason favorite Yale last weekend in Ithaca.
The Big Red is off to its first 2-0 start since 1999, which includes a 17-14 win over Ivy League preseason favorite Yale last weekend at home. Cornell’s defense held the Bulldogs’ All-American running back Mike McLeod to only 57 yards rushing, sacked the quarterback six times, forced four fumbles and picked off one pass. Anthony Sabo led the Big Red “D” with nine tackles and one sack, while Graham Rihn recovered a fumble and blocked a field goal attempt. On offense Cornell is led by Randy Barbour and his 181 total rushing yards, which includes 67 yards on the ground versus Yale. Quarterback Nate Ford has thrown for 281 yards and two scores in the early going, having completed 58-percent of his passes in that time.
Lehigh has yet to allow a single point during the first quarter this season, having outscored opponents 13-0 during that time. During Andy Coen’s tenure, Lehigh has scored 205 points in the first quarter and allowed only 88.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 12:30 from Goodman Stadium. Tickets are still available and can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall between the hours of 10 and 4 or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
