Lehigh shines at National Collegiate Invite

For the Lehigh women, Jen Schappert raced to a 12th place finish in the 5,000-meters, crossing in a time of 17:00, which qualifies her for the ECAC Championships and breaks the school record of 17:23.60, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Melanie Conklin, Jennifer Thorkorn, Laura Tom and Nicole Montegary took third with a time of 3:59.03, which also broke the school record. K.T. Hessler cleared 1.65-meters in the high jump to place second and Karen Welby finished 14th in the 1000-meter run, crossing in a time of 3:01.24.
On the men’s side, senior Rob Hampson placed fifth in the 5,000-meters, as he finished in a time of 14:27.09, breaking the school record from 1985, and qualifying for the IC4A’s in the process, while the distance medley team of Dave Merola, Greg Horn, Garrett Zambrows and Luke Clay also qualified for IC4A’s with a time of 10:19.13, good for ninth place. In the 500-meters, Zambrows added another IC4A qualification to his list of accomplishments, as he crossed in 13th place with a time of 1:05.04.
